Quartz use in Silicate Industry

Quartz use in Silicate Industry

Quartz Powder and Granules

It is suggested that sodium silicate be produced by fusing sodium carbonate with silica sand or quartz powder (20–100 mesh), which has an analysis of 99% SiO2 and less than 0.25% Al2O3, 0.03% Fe2O3, and combined CaO/MgO content of 0.05%. A variety of products can be produced by varying the ratio of Na2O3. Similar to sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate can be used to make potassium silicate from silica crystals.

Quartz that can be used to make ferrosilicon should have more than 98% SiO2, less than 0.4% Al2O3, and no more than 0.2% of each of Fe2O3, CaO, and MgO. There shouldn't be any phosphorus or arsenic in the quartz. It has an impact on the electric furnace's decrease.
